On September 27th 2014 we again visited the orphanage, where we go with a joy, because there we are very much welcomed and children are waiting for our visits.
The fact that the children are happy for our visits is thanks to all our efforts, dedicated to children's attention and love. We are saying a big "thank you" to all volunteers in whose hearts there is a genuine desire to do good and who does not stop at the achieved and wishes to continue!
On September 10th, in the Riga city elementary school of Valdis Avotins, the association "Independence Balt." volunteers organized the activity "School without drugs". Its aim was to inform students about the consequences of drug use and how to step-by-step addiction affects young people and their relatives lives.
The new school year has started and after the summer holidays the children again go to school to get new knowledge. The NGO believes that young people should be informed about the existing problems in our society and their consequences. Nowadays, drug abuse has reached epidemic levels. It spreads much faster than we manage to implement appropriate preventive measures to stop this terrible phenomenon. Therefore, drug prevention is very important in our society. NGOs volunteers regularly carry out preventive work in schools and plans to continue to organize educational seminars in Latvian schools.
The more we talk about it, the greater will be the possibility that young people in the future will be able to refrain from the frantic action as drug use. The event lasted two hours and there participated 9th grade students. During the activity our volunteers shared their life experiences. We hope that this preventive measure will encourage young people to make the right decisions in the future. At the end of the seminar the school administrations thanked the association and together planned for a similar seminar this year in mid-December, for 7th, 8th and 9th grade students.

In the beginning of September, the association "Independence Balt." volunteers launched a social campaign "Kind-hearted thimbleful" aimed at calling the public to look around, pay attention to what is going on in our streets and help the poor Latvian citizens.
To engage in charity campaign is quite simple. First, you should go to any closest supermarket and purchase the most needed food that people are commonly used in everyday life. The next step, give the purchased food directly in the hands of the people who has financial difficulties to provide food for themselves. After that you pass on the relay to the next person who cares about the situation on the streets, who can help and this person does the same steps as you did. The process should be filmed and placed in social media on the Internet, inviting others to join the campaign.
The idea to include in the process filming and sharing video with social media is nothing new. After the great popularity of the campaign "Ice bucket challenge", creators of the social campaign "Kind-hearted thimbleful", NGOs volunteers had the idea to use those principles adapting them in order to help the poor Latvian citizens.
After one week there have been involved around 100 people in the campaign and the number of supporters continues to grow each day. Association "Independence Balt." invites every Latvian resident who can help the poor fellows to engage in the campaign and to speak to others to join. Let your drop of goodness for our society enhances good work around us!

On 2nd August, 2014 the NGO "Independence Balt." volunteers visited orphanage - shelter "Dzeguzīte", located a hundred kilometres from Riga.
On last Saturday, the youth team went there to meet with the residents of the orphanage, to give them good mood and to help meet their needs.
"At the present, our team has successfully established cooperation with orphanage staff and the link with children. We have gained good experience, which helps more precisely and better plan future trips. Of course, every time we are making the necessary corrections and improvements to the event program. Also, to our team joins the growing number of new and interesting people who want to do good things. This in turn creates a strong and united team", says Vitaly Antonov Society volunteer.
"Without a doubt, this trip has succeeded, and it can be inferred from a number of criteria. Children and teachers had a positive attitude and willing to communicate. Although at the beginning it seemed that the children were closed and reserved, but at the end everyone was happy! This time we even received gifts, even though we usually give gifts. It was very nice"- about his impressions of the events shared volunteer Vitaly.
