Nowadays in our country drug addiction problem becomes more actual. Drugs are becoming more available in school and places where young people are heving fun. Drug addicts become more and more with evey year. 4000 people are officialy registred in addiction centre in Riga who regulary use drugs. In socialists oppinion , only about 1 of 10 drug addicts get in doctors’ data base. Hence , we can make a conclusion that real number of drug addicts is between 20 to 40 thousand. And mostly it is our youth.
Day when young men first face drugs-is the beggining of his perdition. Only he does not know about it. He keeps attend school or go to job. He considers that he is going to be an exception,that will never hit, will not become a slave, will not fall so low to quit school or job, start to do prostitution , will never sit in jale.. He thinks that he will be able to quit any moment he wants.
Unfortunately, it is an illusion. With every dose, shackles tightens harder. And finally comes a day when getting out is impossible. Only one target is to get another dose. Every cell of body works only to get that target. Power of drugs is so huge that no one and nothing can cancel it. Medicine is powerless. Relatives can only watch in despair how their loved one is dying,how his personality and destiny is being destroyed.
It is the way which clearly leads to death. Overdose , HIV, jail, suicide, many accidents. Any way they don’t live long. Unfortunately it’s reality. If only..you manage to escape. Escape-it is hard,but possible. Together with those who understand and back up, goes next to you and help to hold on. With them who themselfes have gone through this all,were on the verge of death, but found strengh in themselfes to fight an winn. Most of them who was in addiction, acquiesce with it and choose the easy way. They believe that that the way out exists,while world statistics shows that fewer then 10% of drug addicts return to normal life.
But we believe, because we ourselves have come back from there. In Lazdukalns’ parish,Balvi’s region there is working a rehabilitation centre, where people have opportunity to discard from drug or alcohol addiction. In order to get out of addiction problem ,you have to go long and hard way. Freedom is what you have to fight for-step by step. Course in rehabilitation centre „Independence” lasts at least one year. Only those who made a serious deccision and really want to stay, delays here.
The aim of project: To support rehabilitation centre „Independence” by covering daily expences which costs abou 1.50ls a day. This price includes food,hygiene, medical expences, household goods, heating, electricity and gas. Average number of people who is in centre at same time-26. Necessary amount of money in month is 1170ls.
